Meet the Farmers Seeding Change

In the heart of Colombia’s Meta region, a place rich in biodiversity but scarred by conflict, Fernando and his wife Anarsila have cultivated a vision for a sustainable future.

Below is a personal message from them, sharing their journey and the critical work being done to restore and protect these vital environments — which your support magnifies.

Hello Friend,

My name is Fernando, and my wife, Anarsila, and I have a small 27 acre farm in the Meta region of Colombia. For us, everything — our life, our love, and our well-being — is rooted in the field.

Our journey has not been easy. We’ve had to overcome the challenges of armed conflict and rebuild our lives from scratch. But through it all, the land has been our constant. It’s where we work, live, and find hope for the future. Together, we plant, we harvest, and we nurture our land — not just for ourselves, but for the next generation.

We practice sustainable farming because we believe that the health of the land is the health of our community. We create natural fertilizers from pruning residues and kitchen waste, letting microorganisms do their part to nourish our crops. These practices not only sustain our cacao trees but help conserve and regenerate the land.

Our work with Rare has been transformational....
